St John (trip #2)
Although I got more food today (three appetizers) and actually sat in the dining room (twas closed the first time) I actually enjoyed my first visit to this foodie shrine when I sat in the bright bar area, had one starter and a beer. Anyway, the service was good and the waiters are very polite/kind/helpful in spite of this lil asian guy snapping pictures of the food they brought him.
I can’t say the presentation of the first two dishes I ordered was impressive in any way, but then again I didn’t come here for presentation (it’d be nice if Ferguson experimented with presentation though, since he was initially trained as an architect). I came for good food, specifically for English ingredients/dishes prepared with fine French technique, and for the most part, that’s what I got.
Here’s what I ordered:
Terrine: I already forgot what they had in this, but it was pretty standard (aka I liked it very much). Wish they gave me some nice toasties/frisee salad to have with this but, the fresh bread they give tables substituted okay.
Rabbit Offals with Chickpeas: (I actually enjoyed the “sauce” this was in more than the actual offals, but I had to have offals at least once in the UK. The “sauce” was actually just the juices from the cooking process of the rabbit parts, with some parsley and some chicken stock)
Roasted Bone Marrow with Parsley Salad: (of course) delicious as the first time
(edit: just wanna say, looking at the pic of the Bone Marrow…I love he presentation b/c it’s like Volcanoes of Delicious —can i copyright that phrase for my future restaurant?)
